I went to the Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition put on by Basquiat’s family in Chelsea, NYC. Basquiat is an extremely popular artist. There have been many exhibitions of his work. It’s my understanding that this is the first exhibition to be put on by family members. It has paintings, drawings and artifacts never seen before. There are videos of his sisters talking about what it was like to grow up with the artist. I liked the recreation of the family living room and kitchen. Tell me how many of those same spices you have in your kitchen. I liked the home movies they had playing throughout the exhibition. My absolute favorite sections were the recreations of his workspace. I love seeing where great artists worked. If you have a chance to check out the exhibition I would highly recommend that you do so.
