I try to travel to a new place every year. Last year after watching the movie Crazy Rich Asians I was inspired to go to the Republic of Singapore which has the distinction of being the only island-city-country in the world. It’s made up of 63 islands located in southeast Asia between Indonesia and Malyasia. I spent my time on Mainland Singapore. Legend has it that they got their name from a prince who landed in the country and saw a tiger that he thought was a lion. He then christened the country Singapura or Lion City as Singa means lion in Malay. Demographically the country’s ethnic groups in majority order are Chinese, Malays, Indians and Other. The national language is Malay but it is my understanding that instruction in schools is done in English. The currency is the Singapore Dollar.
I’d describe Singapore as a tropical oasis with stunning architecture. I have some of my favorite attractions pictured above. I found that once I left the hotel the customer service was very hit and miss. Some places were okay others not so much. As a result I didn’t do much eating out but as vegetarian there were plenty of options.
If you are planning a trip to Singapore keep in mind that the temperature is usually in the mid 70s to high 80s year round. So pack your sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen. Give yourself at least 3 days to sightsee and visit some museums and the gardens. I was there for a week. And lastly take advantage of the hop on and hop off buses that pick up and drop off in the major tourist areas to get around.

I have not seen the movie yet, but you inspired me to go visit. The architecture is indeed beautiful. I think the prince was right for naming it so:-)
