A hair story: 1- 10

Hair can be a big deal for us ladies, and gents. When it comes to my hair I’ve done it all except for a jherri curl. Not that there’s anything wrong with a jherri curl. I’ve just never tried it  :o).

I’ve been wearing my hair in locs for about 9 years. Before that I had a low cut, before that I wore it permed straight, and before that my mother combed it. I’ve pretty much always liked my hair except for the period where I changed countries and everyone at my new school had a perm except for me, and I begged my mother, the great illuminator for a perm and she said no……for three years straight.

I ended up wearing my hair permed for about 6-7 years.  After that period I cut it very, very short to a baldie. I went from going to the hairdresser to going to a barber. I realize a picture from this period would be great and I’m looking for them.  I wore the low cut for several years and loved it, but eventually decided to grow my hair out which I was doing until about April or May of this year when I cut about nine inches off. I thought about going even shorter for a while but the feeling passed.

So basically in the end, I came full circle back to my natural hair and the great illuminator won again :~)…

5.) 2009
6.) 2011 before big chop

1.) This is the oldest picture I could find for now. When I wore my hair very low I experimented a lot
with different colors because I could always cut it off and change it as the hair grew. When I
decided to grow it out, it was the color on the ends of the hair in this pic

2.) Tips still colored, good picture to see the difference in length from the year before

3 & 4) My go to bun back in the day and my hair jewelry phase 🙂

5.) This was the best hair shot I could find for that year. At this point I’d dyed my hair black to get it
      all one color again

6.)  Not the best pic, but shows how my hair was before I cut it

More after the break….

7.) 2011-Freshly cut
8.) 2011

10.) Sep- 2011

7. & 8.) I was getting the blahh hair blues and was mostly just pulling it back into a pony tail so I
decided to cut it.  I ended up taking about 9 inches off.

9.)         This pic was taken after I’d just finished washing my hair.

10.)       This is typically what I do to my hair after I wash and towel dry it. If you look closely you’ll
see little black rubber bands on the ends of the braids I’ve randomly tucked in to each other.
I try to avoid direct heat on my hair, so I’ll usually let it continue to air dry like this and
depending on how I feel I might wear it like this for a day or two or three 🙂 afterwards.

The End.

Absolutely LUSCIOUS locs!! Those fish-tail braids are bangin', girl! I could never pull that off due to scalp issues, but I've always been curious: How do you deal with the weight once they get so long?? Do you ever get neck cramps? Either way, beauty is pain, right? ;o)

@peculiar Virtue:Hi!. Thank you! When they were their longest they only really got heavy when they were wet and they didn't stay wet very long. I didn't really get any neck cramps but I did knock myself out a lot trying to get into my car when I had an updo :~~) .p.s I did a crackle mani this week. I didn't forget you.
