Give Me Ten

I always feel great after I do yoga. It would make sense then that I would do yoga often. Unfortunately I have not been able to apply that logic to my life as of late.  The sad reality is on my “yoga days” I roll out of bed onto my yoga mat and….. wait for it…. go right back to sleep.

I have to drive to the gym so once I’m there I might as well work out.  It’s kind of impossible for me to fall asleep on my treadmill or reformer machine, but there is something about my yoga mat that my body is treating like an extension of my bed. Maybe it’s all the sleeping on Tatami mats I did while I was in Japan.

I am committed to getting back into a regular yoga practice.  I found (yes it was lost in the wilderness that is my home screen) this app on my phone, Sworkit with great yoga workouts that can be done in as little as five minutes.  They also have other types of exercises as you can see from the first cell phone screen shot.  Once you select yoga you choose from the three types of yoga workouts they offer. You then pick how long you want the session to be. The maximum time for the version of the app I have is sixty minutes.  The name of each position is announced, there is a timer to tell you how long you should stay in the position, and they have professional trainers demonstrating the poses in real time. I love it!

There are a lot of different theories on how long it takes to form a habit. Some say 21 days and others say as long as 66.  Never one to set myself up for failure I am going to start by trying to practicing yoga for ten consecutive days using the Sworkit app.  There is probably some subconscious reason that would explain what is essentially my resistance to practicing. It will be interesting to see what if anything is revealed in these next ten days.

If you practice yoga let me know some of your favorite and least favorite poses. My favorite pose is Standing Wide Legged Forward Bend.  My least favorite is Downward Dog.

Namaste!

The app has other exercises if you are not into yoga. Thanks the colors of the prints caught my eye.

I tried yoga once and was surprised that it wasn't as easy as it looks. I would like to try it again and try to stick to it this time. Lately, I've just been walking, but the temperatures are heating up too much to work out outdoors now… 🙂

Hi Dee welcome! That's another reason I like the Sworkit app. You can do the exercises anywhere.

I'm there with you when it comes to exercise – as soon as I am about to preform some suddenly the dishes look dirtier, my bed looks appealing and the packet of crisp starts talking to me. I've never really tried yoga but at this stage (looks at belly) I might just have to.I think 10 days is a good goal. I'll certainly look into this app and others but like you I'm going to try and be committed. Thanks for posting it has opened up new exercising possibilities 🙂

See, that's exactly why I don't do yoga! It is too calming and relaxing. But I hope to get it one day. It is very good for both the body and the mind. Happy new week, luv!

Ha Nerline! It can be, but there are also a lot of poses that can be very invigorating. Please don't let me be your example 🙂

I so want to get back into yoga, but I'm not very consistent. I need to find a way to get back into it because it really is calming and centering for me. Maybe I need a new mat like yours to help inspire me.

I said to myself, I Need some calm, peace. I enjoy yoga however I can't seem to find the the willpower to continue. I purchased this dvd by beach body called Piyo. It's s great workout, but you have to be mentally prepared. Think I'll try again. What do you do to keep yourself motivated?

I have my days but I want a good quality of life as I get older and I know a consistent work out routine will help me with that which keeps me motivated.
