Book Review- The Taste of Sugar

Folks,

This one just didn’t do it for me. The author can write and the story that is set in Puerto Rico and Hawaii was fairly interesting. I was not aware that Hawaii had a history of Puerto Rican immigrants after the hurricane that devastated Puerto Rico in 1899 so I even learned something. My hang up with this book is that none of the characters could catch a break. An alternate title to the book could have been they were all salt. Without giving any spoilers I’ll just say that I may have just reached a point in my life where I want my fiction to have clear, shiny and happy endings. I’d recommend this book to someone  interested in multigenerational stories and Caribbean history. I would not recommend it if you are looking for something that will uplift you.  This has been a very “meh” reading year for me so far. I hope the next book is better.

Have a great weekend!

Hi doll, Thanks for sharing your view of this book with us. It’s a beautiful title. Too bad the book did not live up to your expectations.
